Greggs Chief Executive Awarded HRH The Prince of Wales Ambassador for the North East

8th July 2010

Ken McMeikan, Greggs Chief Executive, has been awarded HRH Prince of Wales Ambassador for the North East in recognition of Ken’s leadership and commitment to local communities.

The award is made in recognition of the work Ken has done since joining Greggs, in particular championing the continued growth of our Breakfast Clubs and his leadership with other businesses in the North East region to establish employment skills training programmes for ‘hard to reach’ groups.

HRH The Prince of Wales said “For the remarkable amount of work and success Ken has achieved to move the responsible business agenda forward, both regionally and nationally, I am delighted to make him my Business in the Community Ambassador for the North East.”

When he received the award, Ken publicly thanked all Greggs staff who work tirelessly to help support people in Greggs local communities and make a difference to people’s lives and said that the award is for everyone at Greggs.

Karen Wilkinson-Bell, North East Regional Director for Business in the Community, said “Ken is genuinely passionate about making a difference to the lives of those in the communities in which Greggs operates, and is a true advocate of the philosophy of ‘doing the right thing because it’s the right thing for businesses to do.’

As North East Ambassador for the next 12 months, Ken will continue to lead the North East region’s businesses in working together to take action in our communities.
