Greggs win at the North East Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards 2015
Greggs is delighted to announce that they have won the ‘North East Collaborative Action’ award for their work with the Newcastle Falcons rugby club on its ‘Tackling Health’ initiative.
This award recognises businesses that pool resources and work together to make a positive impact on a key social or environmental issue through their collaborative action.
The ‘Tackling Health’ programme comprises a range of coaching, educational and engagement measures, and events were held at 15 North East primary schools, where Greggs already has a relationship through the Breakfast Club scheme. Each class received:
· One hour of tag rugby every week, for a period of five weeks
· One hour of Healthy Schools Education in classroom, for a period of five weeks
· A player and mascot visit
Greggs also hosted a ‘Tackling Health’ day held at the Newcastle Falcons rugby ground. In total, 350 children participated in a tag rugby competition, with 120 of these children from Greggs Breakfast Club schools.
