We care about where our ingredients come from and take great care to ensure that the animal products used in our recipes are produced in a way that avoids the abuse or exploitation of animals. For example, all of our whole shell eggs and liquid eggs are from Free Range hens and we are proud to have received Compassion in World Farming's Good Egg award. Our tuna is caught by pole and line fishing or by using methods without any Fish Aggregating Devices.
Animal welfare is a top business priority at Greggs and to this end, we measure our progress against the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW). We're proud to have maintained Tier Two in the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare for the third year running and work hard to drive continuous improvement throughout our supply chain.

Our commitment to Chicken Welfare
From our bakes, to our sandwiches, we know our chicken products are some of our customers favourites. The better that our chickens are looked after, the more flavoursome and high-quality meat they produce.
Like you, chicken welfare means a lot to us. That’s why we’ve signed up to the Better Chicken Commitment. What does this mean? We’ll make sure our chickens have plenty of space to run around and do their thing, with enough natural light, and without any cages. We’ll introduce more natural features like hay and pecking stations. We’ll only ever adopt breeds that grow at a slower rate and can therefore live to higher welfare standards. As well as this, our overall auditing process has become even more stringent, ensuring that we can continue working to push improvements to welfare standards across our supply chain.

Our partnership with Fairtrade
We are proud to be able to make a positive difference through our commitment to purchasing Fairtrade products. By sourcing Fairtrade goods, we are able to support marginalised producers in developing countries by guaranteeing a minimum price and a Fairtrade premium. This secure income allows producers to plan for a more sustainable future and also, in turn, support their local communities through investment in local schools, health care and infrastructure.
All the tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar sachets, orange juice and apple juice we sell are certified Fairtrade and we've recently added Fairtrade Peppermint Tea, Green Tea and soya milk to our hot drinks menu. We were proud to be Fairtrade's high-street partner for Fairtrade Fortnight 2019.
We ensure our products are made in a safe environment and meet our top-notch quality requirements. We assess all of our suppliers against the British Retail Consortium (BRC) global standard for food safety to ensure the highest levels of food hygiene, safety and integrity in our supply chain and were proud to achieve top marks for v7.
Working with our suppliers
We look after our suppliers, making sure we pay our bills promptly, and pride ourselves on building long term relationships. We expect the same high standards from them and have robust policies in place to encourage this.

We work with suppliers to monitor performance and use findings to support long-term working arrangements. Within our operations, we consider Human Rights in line with our policy commitments. Where we work with external suppliers, both UK and overseas, we apply a risk assessment process to identify potential issues through our procurement processes. This ensures we identify any areas of potential concern allowing us to investigate and manage accordingly.
We are part of the SEDEX network and in addition, we work with key trade bodies and associations on issues related to human rights. We are proud signatories to the BRC's 'Better Retail, Better World' initiative and are also corporate partners of Business in the Community.
