Making recycling easier for customers in our shops

At Greggs, we're always looking for practical ways to reduce our environmental impact and make sustainable choices easier for our customers.

That's why we've rolled out new recycling stations across our shop estate, helping customers to separate and recycle more of the packaging they use when visiting our shops.

The new stations provide clearly labelled sections for different types of waste, making it simpler than ever for customers to recycle items such as paper, cardboard, plastics and hot drink cups where facilities are available. The initiative is part of our ongoing work to reduce waste and improve recycling across our business.

The rollout builds on the progress we've already made in improving the recyclability of our packaging. Today, 100% of our own-brand packaging, excluding hot cups, is fully recyclable and OPRL certified, helping more materials stay in circulation for longer rather than becoming waste. This sits alongside wider efforts to reduce packaging use and increase the use of more sustainable materials across our operations.

While introducing recyclable packaging is an important step, we know making recycling convenient is equally important. By making it easier for customers to dispose of their waste correctly, the new recycling stations can help increase recycling rates and reduce the amount of waste sent for general disposal.

In a small number of shops where space does not allow for a recycling station, customers can still hand recyclable items to a member of the Greggs team, who will ensure they are recycled through the correct process.

The rollout of segregated recycling stations forms part of Greggs broader sustainability commitments, which include reducing packaging waste, increasing recyclability and continuing to improve waste management practices across the business.
