Greggs maintains Tier 2 ranking in Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare
Greggs has maintained a Tier 2 position and Impact Rating C in the latest Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW), marking continued progress in strengthening our approach to farm animal welfare.
Greggs has been engaged with BBFAW since 2012, using the benchmark as an important external lens to help guide and assess improvements in our approach to animal welfare. Maintaining a Tier 2 position reflects the strong progress we have made, placing us among only four retailers in this tier.
In poultry, we have worked to improve welfare standards including a focus on stocking density, alongside broader measures to strengthen how welfare requirements are applied and monitored through the supply base. In pork sourcing, the business has also engaged suppliers to support higher welfare practices, including the transition away from sow stalls.
These product-specific improvements are supported by a broader programme of work to strengthen governance, supplier engagement and transparency, helping to ensure animal welfare considerations are more consistently embedded across sourcing decisions and supply chain management.
Maintaining Tier 2 status provides a strong platform to build from. Greggs remains focused on continuing to raise standards, working collaboratively with suppliers and partners, and delivering measurable progress against its longer-term commitments set out in The Greggs Pledge, including ambitions through to 2030.
