Earlier this year, we announced the Greggs Sustainability Challenge, starting an exciting competition that would see colleagues from our supply chain, shops and offices submit and pitch their sustainability ideas. Thanks to the support of Biffa, the winning ideas are set to become reality.

We know our colleagues have amazing ideas and we have existing channels to share these, but The Greggs Sustainability Challenge was our rallying call, inviting all colleagues to propose pioneering sustainability initiatives.

As a responsible business, we want to play our part in making the world a better place. We strongly believe that our colleagues have amazing ideas that can help build stronger and healthier communities, create a safer planet, or make us a better business. We were looking for anything that could help us deliver on our Doing Good agenda, our Greggs Pledge commitments, or anything our colleagues were passionate about… and as always, they did not disappoint.

We were blown away by the proposed initiatives which included enriching local ecosystems; community kitchen gardens promoting food security; plastic reduction initiatives and engagement forums, as ideas were both diverse and inspiring.

Finalists were invited to our head office to present their remarkable ideas to an expert panel, and the winning colleagues will now see their ideas become reality.

As far as we’re concerned, everyone who entered is a winner and we are so proud that our colleagues are passionate about Doing Good.

We can’t wait to update on the progress of these colleague-led initiatives, in the coming months.
