Celebrating 20 years of partnership with Fairtrade
As Greggs marks 20 years of sourcing Fairtrade coffee, our partnership with the Fairtrade Foundation continues to play a central role in how we source key ingredients responsibly and support the people behind them.
What began in 2006 with a commitment to 100% Fairtrade freshly ground coffee has grown into a long-standing partnership which now spans coffee, tea, fruit juice, cocoa and sugar across our own-brand range.
Today, that partnership connects Greggs with 75 small-scale producer organisations across 9 countries, supporting farmers and workers who are navigating increasingly complex environmental and economic challenges.
A focus on long-term impact
At the heart of Fairtrade is the Fairtrade Premium – an additional sum of money earned by farmers and workers, which they choose how to invest based on their local priorities.
Through Greggs Fairtrade sourcing, producers have earned over £12 million in Fairtrade Premium since 2006.
In 2025 alone, Greggs products generated an estimated £1.57 million in Fairtrade Premium, reflecting the continued scale of the partnership and its role in supporting producers across our supply chain.
These investments are led by producers themselves and can include projects to strengthen livelihoods, improve infrastructure and support adaptation to climate-related risks.
Growing responsibly across our range
The partnership has expanded significantly over the past two decades. Alongside coffee, Greggs now sources Fairtrade tea, cocoa and sugar, as well as fruit juices, with volumes continuing to grow year-on-year across key commodities.
We are also the top UK-based non-retailer brand for Fairtrade coffee by volume, reflecting the scale and consistency of our sourcing commitment.
Supporting the Greggs Pledge
Our partnership with Fairtrade forms an important part of the Greggs Pledge, particularly our commitments to sourcing responsibly and supporting people and communities across our supply chain.
Fairtrade’s approach – underpinned by minimum prices, the Fairtrade Premium and independent standards – helps provide a framework that supports more stable incomes, safer working conditions and greater resilience for farming communities.
Looking ahead
While this anniversary reflects the scale of what has been achieved over the past 20 years, our focus remains on the future – and on continuing to strengthen partnerships that deliver lasting impact.
As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to working with Fairtrade and our suppliers to support the farmers and communities behind our products, and to play our part in building a fairer and more sustainable food system.
