At Greggs, we believe every school-aged child deserves breakfast each day.

The Greggs Foundation Breakfast Club programme has reached the significant milestone of 1,000 Breakfast Clubs, providing free and nutritious breakfasts to over 75,000 schoolchildren across the UK every day. This exceeds the Greggs Pledge commitment of feeding 70,000 children by the end of 2025.

The Greggs Foundation is the independent grant-making charity associated with Greggs plc. It’s Breakfast Club programme, which is focused on providing breakfast for pupils in areas where the need is greatest, uses a collaborative approach to achieve long-term benefits for communities.

The first Breakfast Club was launched 25 years ago in 1999.  Since then, the scheme has provided 90 million breakfasts and is proven to make a huge difference to pupils’ engagement levels. Not only do they offer a nutritious start to the day, but they also provide a time for children to interact with each other and with school staff before their classes begin, increasing their readiness to learn and concentrate during lessons.

But there is still more to be done to support families, with recent research from The Greggs Foundation revealing that almost half (48%) of parents of 4 to 11-year-olds saying they are finding it harder to afford to put nutritious meals on the table for their family. This figure rose to over three-quarters (77%) for those in lower income brackets. The Greggs Foundation will therefore be developing its support for schools across even more of the school day through after-school clubs and holiday clubs.

As one of The Greggs Foundation’s vast network of partners, Greggs plc donates 1% of its pre-tax profits to The Greggs Foundation each year, and in 2023 its customers donated over £650,000 through the Breakfast Club Appeals and products, such as 5p from every Jammy Heart biscuit purchased.
